 IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT (27-Oct-2020): ONLINE-ONLY LESSONS FOR THIS COURSE

What follows regards the logistics of the next High-Performance Computer Architecture lessons in light of the general recommendations of this particular period of pandemic.
First of all I would like to express my personal opinion on the situation: all accredited scientific sources (Istituto Superiore di Sanità , World Health Organization, appeals by scientists, etc.) recommend the utmost attention, without excessive alarmism of course; in particular, *reducing contacts as much as possible* seems to be the key aspect to limit the chain of infections and avoid saturating health facilities. I believe that even if we can do little, this little should be done, even if it requires some sacrifices on the communicative and social aspects, however important.
The University on the other hand has chosen to carry out mixed teaching (both in presence and at a distance) at a time when the spread of COVID-19 seemed to tend to zero, while now there are no new indications despite the overt and very clear worsening of the situation from any point of view (percentage of positives, increase of patients in intensive care, Rt index, etc.).
-> Therefore, my recommendation is the following: if possible, at least for what concerns my course, take the lessons from home and interact with me both during the lesson and later by email.
Given the particular situation, I am trying as much as possible to provide all possible remote support and I invite you to use the office-hours (online) every Monday after 16:30, as much as possible.
In any case, it should also be possible to follow the lessons from home also for all other subjects, given that distance learning MUST be provided.
I also kindly ask those who, for any reason, still want to follow the lessons in presence to tell me (by writing to me by email) so that I will open for you room 147 so that you can connect online. I intend to set up the online lesson from my studio, where at least the probability of a less than optimal setup for broadcasting and recording the lesson is reduced a little.
I therefore hope for a nice and safe continuation of our lessons, remembering that for the midterm test of 03/11/2020 we will make an exception to what is written above by carrying out the test at our Department, assuming that in any case there is no need a lot of interaction during such test.
