Research Areas


Decision and Management Methods

The Decision and Management Methods area holds both financial and mathematical skills to address complex decision problems, arising, for example, in the management of supply-chains and production and logistic systems, firms, and, more generally, in systems in which scarce resources must be allocated and scheduled.
Problems of particular interest are those arising from real-world applications.

Research activities of the area mainly concern the development of methodological approaches for modelling and solving management and decision problems, including the definition of new models, the design of new solution algorithms and the definition and implementation of performance measurement systems. To this aim, commercial software and self-generated codes are used to validate new models and solution techniques.

The main mathematical and modelling background of the group draws from optimization theory, specifically Mathematical Programming, Combinatorial Optimization, Scheduling and Graph Theory.

The financial skills of the group regard management control and performance measurement systems, and fall in the area of management and accounting.
